About "The Whole Story"

On September 24, we began a year of reading the Bible. That’s right. We’re going to read the whole thing. Why? Well, because the Bible was written for us, so that we would have faith in Christ (John 20:31). And because we can. This fall, we are marking the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, the movement started by Martin Luther in which Luther called the church back to scripture and the Good News of Jesus Christ that scripture reveals to us. One of the things that came out of the Reformation was that the Bible should be in the language of the people, so that all people could read it. We are all people! So, we’re going to read it.

It’s a big challenge. But we have confidence that we can do it together. From daily email reminders to tips on reading to resources for the family to cross-generational experiences that engage us in the stories of the Bible to small group discussions, we got you covered to make a big hairy goal as manageable and easy as possible. And guess what? There’s a promise in this Word that we are going to read. Isaiah 55:10-11 says, “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” The promise of God’s Word is that it will work in us to create faith by delivering Christ, Word made flesh, into our lives. So, read on! It’s a challenge that’s worth it.
